I'm excited about our new book, pulling together the threads of what great schools do & celebrating them. We've explored curriculum, learning, behaviour, attendance, personal development & leadership. I'm forever indebted to all schools I've visited/ worked with. Link in comment

Cards on the table. When I was a teacher I was on Β£150k, drove a company car, knocked off at 2 & picked up overtime if I fancied doing some marking at the weekends or over my 26 weeks holiday. Parents, pupils & the media lavished me with praise daily. Lor there's nonsense aboutπŸ™„

Remember not all teachers had a rosy upbringing and lives. We shouldn't make assumptions about pupils and their families but we should also not make assumptions about educators either. It's not helpful and can hurt.

Hearing about remote practices i worry people are trying to do too much, perhaps proving how they have improved since the Summer. You can't do it all and certainly not in a day. Balance needed for the students too. Quality not quantity

Happy to have received this today. Studied while working full-time, writing and dealing with the various trials of life and death. I will let myself have a moment of pride

I like rows. Rows are good. I taught in rows for years. But let's be clear, rows do not guarantee attention, good learning or excellent progress. They are one part of a very big picture.

I wanted thank those of you who wished my mum well on her 90th (she didn’t understand but knew people β€˜liked’ her pic), offered me support when she started going down hill & saw when it was getting worse. She passed last Saturday afternoon at home. Whip-crack-away Pat Harrhy

Just looking at ways schools encourage reading for pleasure. Some of the monitoring/ enforcing (not reading ages or diagnostics) sound exhausting. I think if we want to encourage pleasure in reading & promote a regular habit we should just read great books with them regularly
