My late father tutored my son 2x per week in math all the way from California—and always had on a Tuskegee shirt when he did. Ha. His grandson is now a freshman at TU—and is strong in math to this day. NEVER underestimate the power of your influence—or intention. Yeah.🥹🙏🏽🌱

14/ That was the 1st time I’d been pulled over with 1 of my sons. Seeing my boy instinctively put his hands up and stare straight ahead made my heart both swell and break at the same time. Know this: What threatens daily wellbeing is NOT the same for everyone, ok? Thanks.

1/ Last Sunday afternoon, I was riding in the car with my 12-year-old son. Just us 2, riding to our (super casual) church. And talking about his first week of school. Best part: Seeing his friends. Worst part: Having to wake up early again. All of it was super normal. Yup.

1/ On rounds at Grady Me: "How're you feeling today?" Him: "Well. I been better. That medicine y'all gave me made me run off!" My team looked puzzled. I did not. Me: "Oh no! You talking 'bout the medicine we gave you for your gout flare up?" Him: "Yeah! That one!"

I was unblinded today as a #COVIDVaccine trial enrollee. Found out I’d gotten placebo. Yup. Next, I was offered the vaccine. I chose to consent & received my first dose. Nothing withheld. Not this time. This I do in remembrance of you. We’re at the table now. #thisboutus

1/ I was walking into Grady one day after lunch and saw 3 young black men standing outside near the entrance. They were laughing and talking in animated voices. The easy, melodic African American vernacular they used was familiar. Some profanity was interspersed. I drew closer.
