    My book "The Spy in the Archive: How one man tried to kill the KGB" is out today in the US and I'm so pleased to see this review in the New York Times. "What makes Corera’s book original is that he shows the U.S.S.R.’s demise from the vantage point of its security services."

    NEW - Russian commanders have been killed after they felt they had to move closer to the front lines, western officials say. Deputy Commander of the 41st combined arms Army killed by sniper fire. A divisional commander and a regimental commander also killed.

    Russian commanders moving further forward to get more control and impetus behind operations which have, in some cases, badly stalled. Those commanders are trying to impose their own personality on the battlefield but this in turn, is placing them at greater risk, w. officials say

    New - 10,000 Russians killed is a ‘reasonable estimate’, a western official says. The figure briefly appeared on a pro-Kremlim website, possibly after being hacked, before being quickly deleted. The official added this would mean a further 30-40,000 wounded or incapacitated

    The official said it was ‘remarkable’ that Hostomel airport was still being fought over when it was a Day 1 objective for Russian forces. They still expect Russian forces to try and edge towards the capital but Ukrainian forces are doing ‘well’ to take small towns back

    Overall, six Russian Generals are now thought to have been killed, the most senior is a Lt General who was commander of the 8th Combined Arms Army. All six will have been replaced, the western official says.
