A few people have asked if I have a list of my history threads. I don't keep one as they're a spontaneous thing mostly. But here's a few I remember. Let's start with how the Knights Hospitaller had one of the largest airforces in Europe after WW2. Really.

On 16th March, 1968 Warrant Officer Hugh Thompson Jnr was flying helicopter recon for an attack on an alleged Viet Cong-controlled village in Vietnam. As the attack developed, Thompson realised he was witnessing something something else: A massacre. He decided to act. /1 🧵

BTW one of my favourite things in fantasy art is that if you want to make a dragon look menacing or powerful, you draw it in poses used by cats. If you want to make a dragon stupid but loveable, you draw it in poses used by dogs. Once you see it, you can't unsee it.

As I've said before, the whole "more conservative as you age" thing was always "more conservative when you feel part of the status quo and want to preserve it" Home ownership, good healthcare, pensions, free education etc. All stuff Millennials and below don't get.

And that is why today, even in 2019, if you go down to Embankment station in London, and sit on the northbound platform on Northern Line, you will here a COMPLETELY different voice say Mind the Gap to ANYWHERE else on the Underground. It's Oswald. Merry Christmas everyone.

Thompson remains, to my mind, one of the finest examples of leadership and courage, military or otherwise, you will find. It is easy to just "follow orders", pretend you don't see what's happening or that you're just doing what your country needs you to do "for patriotism".
