Wow, China just killed their gaming industry. Overnight the value of the industry tanked $80B, with Tencent representing $50B of that lost value. Well... on the brightside, Tencent wont be buying up every single western developer anymore.

If you are a Unity developer, and are rightly pissed off right now, I more than understand. If you are dealing with a Unity employee though, please don't take out your frustrations on them. There's a 99.9% chance they had nothing to do with these changes & they are just as mad.

Out of nowhere, Gaijin Entertainment open sourced the Dagor Engine. This is the game engine behind the extremely popular game War Thunder. And this is real open source... BSD-3 license! Literally no announcement or explanation given. gamefromscratch.com/warthunder-gam… #gamedev #indiedev

I am hearing the same thing from many people I talk with, especially content creators and even more so in light of recent events. The #GodotEngine Asset Store... needs to happen. Yesterday. Or the day before that preferably. It's not just #gamedev looking for new homes.

In a nutshell, China just banned gatcha style gaming. Honestly, I think Canada, the US and EU should follow suit and the world would be a better place.

Windows 11 completely ruined the start menu, which I routinely used as a quick search/launch. Is there a 3rd party Windows app that operates similar to Mac's Cmd + Space? I know I can do Win + R, but it doesn't search. I use this as a quick way to launch installed apps.

I don't hold too many controversial opinions, but there is one I have and will take to my grave. camelCase is the one true case. PascalCase is a close second. snake_case is just... ugly.

Unity have just announced new pricing. For the free Personal tier, things have definitely improved. For everyone else, it's gotten worse. So, so, so much worse. The Unity Runtime Fee is a staggeringly awful idea. gamefromscratch.com/unity-announce… #gamedev #indiedev #Unity3d

Honestly Kenney, as hard as it is, you need to just put it behind you. I get similar experiences on occasion, and you can focus on the 0.1% of truly awful responses... or remember the 99.9% of positive responses. Plus /r/gamedev is a festering pit now, ignore it, it's trash.
