On 14 May 1999, while leading a patrol near Bajrang Post in the Kaksar Sub-Sector, Capt Saurabh Kalia and the brave soldiers of 4 JAT were among the first to detect and report Pakistani intrusions across the Line of Control.
Outnumbered but undeterred, they fought with exceptional courage until their ammunition was exhausted. After enduring brutal torture in enemy captivity for over 22 days, they made the supreme sacrifice but never yielded their spirit. Their valour and steadfastness became an enduring symbol of courage during the Kargil War.
