The Mexican government has insisted that only 27 people have died in Acapulco. Today we watched rescue crews pull bodies out of the water. One of the security officials on scene told us they recovered 50 bodies today. 1/
I just did an interview over the phone with @HEBobiwine. He says he is essentially under house arrest — with no one allowed in or out of his house. He says the government’s intent is to isolate him.
We’ve spent the day in Acapulco and the devastation is breathtaking. Almost all the high rises are heavily damaged. But the most heartbreaking part is all the regular people who have lost what they have worked decades for. This is what one neighborhood looks like. 1/
The families of the fishermen who dock their boats here say there were dozens of people here when the storm hit. The first picture shows the search teams trying find bodies. When they bring them onshore, the families huddle around to see if it’s their loved one.

My friend in Khartoum told me, it’s winter bring a jacket. We’re covering protests. I left my backup phone out while filing a report and it went to sleep. This is “winter” in Khartoum.
Here’s how different indigenous groups from across Guatemala are marching into the capital city. It was them who set up nationwide-roadblocks, it was them who stayed on the streets for 100+ days to make sure their vote was respected. 1/
This is what a giant triumph for democracy looks like this evening in Guatemala. This is what it looks like when a group of young people, the indigenous communities outsmart, outmaneuver and outlast a political elite that had come to be known as the pact of the corrupt.
