if you struggle w motivation and habit formation (like i do), do yourself a favour and create heuristics for life, work, and play. here are some of my favourites:
stumbled into one of Vincent van gogh’s letters to his brother and in it he says ‘If I’m worth something later, I’m worth something now. For wheat is wheat, even if people think it is grass in the beginning.’
once u start going to the gym, u realise that going to the gym is actually the easiest and fun-est bit. eating clean, getting 8 hrs of sleep, actively managing stress are actually the HARD things
1. if it takes less than 5 minutes, do it now
2. habitstacking - combine things you already do w things you wish to do,
- brush in the morning > sunscreen
- put on music in the morning > do your bed, etc.
3. tell yourself it’s okay to just go - this helps a lot if you struggle w inertia. don’t feel working out? it’s okay, just go to the gym, you can come back after warming up if it’s too bad.
can’t recall even one day when i went and didn’t come back without working out.
you’re not going to be at your best everyday and that’s okay. just keep showing up. the problem w the all the all or nothing mindset is that on some days, it’s ALL and on most, it’s nothing. AND, it’s largely driven by fear and anxiety which can’t be a good thing. you’ve got this
sry but if you truly love someone, you won’t be bad at gifting or planning bc these are just a function of observing, listening, and taking initiative. all of which come pretty much naturally when u truly like someone.
super cute story: so we got a new bhaiya at work and his job is to cut up fruits, restock snacks, and do little odd jobs around the office. and yesterday, he started coming up to our desks to give us fruits and we were all like
parents came to meet me for lunch today and in the morning before they left, my dad told me that amma was making sweets for me cuz I said I missed her besan laddus in passing the other day. I asked her not to make cuz im trying to cut down on sugar and guess what
