Really happy this is out @apsrjournal, open access. A short 🧵(1/5) @UgurAytac01 & yours truly put forward a new form of realist ideology critique. It's empirically-grounded, and uses epistemic rather than moral normativity. #PolisciResearch #Philosophy

Seriously, people who tell undergrads they can’t use the first person in essays, who are you? And why do you do this?

Imagine sitting on a 50-billion endowment and not taking the opportunity to spearhead the defence of academic freedom in your country. Well at least we know now what these sorts of schools are all about.

The extraordinary thing about gen-z folk morality is that it’s both very pro diversity and anti value pluralism. There are infinitely many ways to lead a good life, but somehow there are no real conflicts and trade-offs: all good things go together, all bad things go together.

One reason why I wouldn’t pay $44bn for this website is that young people aren’t on it. My students deride it as a dusty old place “where professors fight, or so we hear”.

American academics! Is “I am pleased to warmly and enthusiastically recommend” still the right code for the strongest possible recommendation? Or did you lot come up with something even more bombastic while I wasn’t looking?

Saddened by the casual cruelty on here towards the thousands of UK academics facing redundancy. Even for a such a niche job, but we’ve really failed in communicating what kind of personal tragedy this is. It’s a sort of Rust Belt for PhDs situation 1/2

Except that Piketty’s universalist social democracy would be compatible with today’s civil rights gains, and Vance’s nostalgia wouldn’t. These identitarian takes are poison for the Left (part 36325).
Explanation: Piketty’s Capital in the Twenty-first Century and Vance’s Hillbilly Elegy are different ways of expressing a nostalgic hankering for a postwar world of equality that in fact only existed for white men.
