Still not yet leaving this sinking ship but if you are or want to find me elsewhere, I’m over on bluesky at emilynm! bsky.app/profile/emilyn… Not currently active there and it seems more people went to bluesky, but I do still have my mastodon, [email protected]

Nothing blew my mind like learning many prenatal vitamins (not all, but many) are for *you* and not the baby, because the baby will take the nutrients it needs—you’re ensuring you still have enough left for you

It does not, however, have a brain. It has not developed a cerebral cortex & therefore is still ~8 weeks from even being able to breathe or swallow. It is at least 6 weeks away from the development of the frontal or temporal lobes of the brain.

“It is starting to form legs!” isn’t relevant. You don’t need legs to be living or a human. You do, however, need a brain and the ability to breathe. Two weeks after a missed period, what the body has created is an embryo (not even a fetus yet) that is less developed than shrimp.

At 6 weeks, the electrical activity in what would develop into a brain is less developed than the nervous system of a shrimp. Six weeks is 17 weeks from having brain processing power to react to adverse stimuli.

Fun (tangentially related) fact is that the first CCTV security system was invented by a Black woman! Marie Van Brittan Brown patented her home security system in the 60s; CCTV security systems literally started for a Black person’s safety before becoming so widespread.

Call me crazy, but regardless of law and genetics I simply would not marry someone I could easily run into at a family reunion

I mean… since always? The Black Panther position was never so simple as “racism against Black people is bad.” It was always about broader liberation and saw the inherent connection between racism and imperialism and the need to dismantle systems of both.

Without this background and just seeing the image I would’ve thought “wow that’s crazy that she got such a deep cut right on top of where she has a line tattooed” that’s from the tattoo?? And meant to say something?? Words even??

I feel like this is a short hair/shaving was done thing? Because I’ve cut 6 inches off my hair and then gone straight out to dinner, and the idea that I would go stick my hair in the shower right after it was professionally washed & fully dried is… horrifying

I don’t get his “I grew from the shooting” point at all. How did a school shooting show you racial slurs are bad? And does he realize most of us know that without going through a school shooting?
