Journalists report facts, it's not their job to rebut every insane conspiracy theory that's dreamed up as a counter-narrative. We're collectively getting dumber b/c the reality-based 1/2 of the world is being asked to fact-check the fantastical half, at expense of new knowledge.
    Replying to @jack
Accounts like Jones' can often sensationalize issues and spread unsubstantiated rumors, so it’s critical journalists document, validate, and refute such information directly so people can form their own opinions. This is what serves the public conversation best.

Years ago a young man translated for me in Aleppo. Some time later I met him at the border the day he fled Syria--he nearly didn't make it after being stopped by ISIS. He just invited me to attend his thesis defense in Germany and it's possible I might explode of joy and pride.

It wasn't just Dr. Ford's testimony that was triggering yesterday, but in Kavanaugh's demeanor and rage, I saw nearly every man who has ever laid a hand on me - that specific kind of rage that appears when an entitled but insecure man runs out of ways to control you.

James is one of only a few people in the world who took concrete action to save Syrian lives. He faced unimaginable pressure and targeting as a result. May he Rest In Peace and his family and loved ones find peace in all that he achieved.

Assad's government says he got 95.1% of the 14.2M votes in yesterday's presidential election. More votes than there are people in the government controlled areas of the country (to include children, who couldn't vote anyway). No attempt to even pretend it's legit.

Men were shocked when women said #MeToo, now they’re shocked we are scared after dark, limit and censor ourselves, and say we’ve been harassed or attacked in public. Our testimonies can only do so much. Women can’t fix male violence—men have to actually listen, and then act.

How (sadly) refreshing to see people appointed to jobs they are qualified for, in institutions they are not fundamentally opposed to.

Dear Sir, I regret to inform you that the war isn't over, and that a great many people fled Assad's bombs and prisons, not ISIS. Given that Assad doesn't seem to be going anywhere soon, it's not going to be safe for so many Syrians to return home any time soon. Best, Emma
Now that Syrian civil war is over and ISIS have been thrown out, the 4000+ Syrian refugees in the UK should go home to help re-build their country. Their reason for being here has now gone. We certainly should not allow in any more Syrian migrants. @AMDWaters @ForBritainParty

My educated and informed friends are emailing me en masse asking me about what's going on in Syria because "it's so hard to work out the truth." Having spent years busting a gut to dig it out, it's heartbreaking to see the extent to which disinformation has taken hold.

No, you’re crying in the train station after watching this incredibly powerful trailer for @waadalkateab’s film about Aleppo:
