Lucas Mateus is living in a tent outside of the IPO. Watching tonight’s protest and counter-protest from the sidelines, he said: “I hope people don’t think refugees are here to cause trouble, we are just waiting for work permits and accommodation, and to hear from IPAS”.
A large crowd of counter protestors have turned out in support of asylum seekers living in tents on Sandwith Street. They are chanting “refugees are welcome here” to anti- immigration protestors, and a row of roughly 20 gardai are standing in the middle.
