I don’t think we appreciate how anti-intellectual American culture really is. It’s all premised on amusement and distraction. Americans don’t want or value knowledge. They value simple dichotomies and consumer options - this or that. And above all, they want to be entertained.

They do this in philosophy too. Aristotle is credited with the invention of logic and the syllogism. But Indian philosophy was been engaging in syllogistic reasoning way before him. The socratics are also credited with virtue ethics. But Lao Tzu was doing that before them…
