Posting a late night venty art when everyone is asleep OOPS Anyway, I've been struggling with self-inflicted, existential pressure for productivity for years now. I don't have a solution yet, but I'm working on it.

To all the young artists that are drawing OCs and making their own comics or animations… Keep it up. You’re so cool. Your art is so cool. If nobody else wants to see your OCs, /I DO/. Don’t let anything or anyone tell you that your creativity isn’t worth it.

My first animation industry job, I was hired alongside another artist. It was also her first industry job. No difference in experience at all. I was offered $2 more per hour than her and was considered journey level when I started. (1/4)
What experience in the workplace radicalized you?

I REALLY want to make an “indie studio” where I hire intermediate level artists to work on shorts to provide them a safe place to learn on the job, finished project credits, and professional portfolio pieces. I’m so passionate about this idea, and I can’t wait to work toward it.

Look… I know there’s critique of the queer coded villain trope and all that… but PLEASE bring back flamboyant animated villains with their gay little henchmen. Villains have been so STALE since we got too cowardly to give them eyeliner and musical numbers

TLDR, if companies don’t like you talking about your pay, that’s definitely all the more reason you should.

It took me bringing up pay to my peers in private for us to figure it out. (Higher ups definitely didn’t like that) They had more leverage to ask for a raise because of it, and I’m glad I said something. It made me realize how blatant this shit is when you pay attention.

It’s very uncomfortable knowing your coworkers, who are working just as hard, get less. There’s power in talking about pay. All of us should get our money from these companies. I have no problem being the one to volunteer my income if it means people get what they’re worth.

A few months later at another job, I found out the same thing happened — A different coworker getting $5 less than me for the same work. I was so frustrated. I always am the first one to bring up pay to coworkers now.

You have to talk to people. For networking, meetings with your directors, to clients, pitching, talking to other professionals in general. I'm sorry, saying "i'm a reclusive introvert artist i'm just a little guyyy" will not change that this is skill is required, not optional.
I'm curious, what's your constructive artists/creatives version of this? 👀 Hard truths for improvement or about our field of work.

A word of warning for anyone making anything — be it a webcomic, an animation, a book, anything — The moment you publicly say “coming soon”, you have placed an ancient curse upon your project which will make it NOT, in fact, come any time soon

Go watch the new #HelluvaBoss episode! Collin is very good and I love him.

This is my first #criticalrole campaign, and if anything bad happens to Fresh Cut Grass, I'm going to lose it. #criticalrolespoilers #criticalrolefanart

I want to say this to young artists, because I fell into the same pitfall of idolizing talented people… Just because someone works in animation does not mean they’re your friend. It doesn’t mean they’re safe. It doesn’t mean they are automatically more accepting. Be careful.
