- I was in the elevator coming off a rough shift and an older couple got in with me. The man said that I was brave to wear my pride pin bc “we don’t tolerate ~your kind~ around here” and I was like, “…you don’t tolerate DOCTORS? Sir are you aware that you’re in a hospital” 😌🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
- I received feedback that holding the patient’s hand as they are put under is not in my job description as a medical student intending to apply to surgery and I gotta say, the idea of that being a negative thing about me really sums up a lot of what’s wrong here
- “You signed up for this when you decided to become a healthcare worker” no the fuck we did not
- It’s 8am and I just had a male attending tell me that I shouldn’t have bothered getting an hcg because women older than 40 don’t get pregnant Whoooo is going to tell him?
- Replying to @cham0037It is 😂 he was like, ?!? I mean the QUEERS and I was like, it’s very weird to not tolerate doctors in a place full of doctors where you specifically go to see doctors 😌 enjoy the day!!
- A year ago I was working in a very small rural hospital, around 20 beds, and I left for a weekend out of state and came back on Monday to find that Covid had killed every single patient on the ward. I think of them often
- Replying to @drrdemonThe rest of the surgeons in the room are always just standing with their arms crossed, waiting for the patient to be asleep. Is it really so bad for me to not do that? I’m still helping prep before and after. This doesn’t detract from my other duties.
- It took 18 rejections, 3 MCATs, 2 app cycles, 2 years in research, 1 master’s degree, 1 year as a scribe, 1 year as a medical assistant, and 1 interview offer over the course of 5 years for me to get into med school. Don’t give up if you can’t see yourself doing anything else 🩺
- Replying to @drrdemonFeels like a good time to advertise @clairezagorski’s design, which you can find at etsy.com/listing/102096…
- Replying to @drrdemonIt’s also possible that this is garden variety sexism and I’m just being criticized for ~girly compassion~
- Hot take but only totally benign or normal findings should go out via MyChart. I’m all for patient autonomy and whatnot but getting a potentially life-changing result on a Friday night and having to wait who knows how long for my surgeon to call me is cruel and avoidable
- Replying to @ShadyBeautyMD29Exactly! A surgeon did this for me once and I’ll never forget it.
