Today Gardaí pepper sprayed, tasered and shot dead a young Black man with mental health issues. There will be an ombudsman inquiry, as there always is in the case of a death at the hands of Gardai. Some thoughts...

The video that circulated this week of a gymnastics event where a medal was withheld from the only Black child in a lineup of children waiting to receive medals, and the statement released yesterday by Gymnastics Ireland, is deeply troubling.

University dissertation supervisors, please stop sending UG students out to interview asylum seekers in Ireland with minimal training and oversight. There are no guaranteed benefits to asylum seekers of this research and a high risk of poor research practice. Do something else.

I can genuinely say I wore myself out last night filling in a Garda vetting form with *every* address I've had since birth. The system rejected me when I failed to add where I lived aged 0-6yrs. Ah yes, that early childhood criminal spurt ...🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Ten years ago this week, I went to one of those meetings at work that no-one wants the week before Christmas. The grumpy guy next to me met the love of his life, which was not what he expected to happen at a pointless work meeting. I did too. Happy Christmas romantics. 🎄⛄❄️❤️

The "Return to work" business narrative is deeply insulting for all those who have been working from home, juggling everything, giving up the sanctity of home, and trying to keep work quality high IN A PANDEMIC. Call it 'return to the office', for crying out loud.

Travellers have asked others time and again not to use the work Kn****r. They've been on the receiving end of that so long as a racist slur. Sure, many of us grew up using it for other things. Now we know better. Time to stop using it and ask friends & family not to either.

Yesterday in Dublin, a known far-right activist used a 2x4 wrapped in the Irish flag to injure a woman - amazing activist @IzzyKamikaze - who stood up to their presence outside our national parliament. It appears to have been seen directly by Gardai. We await news of charges.

    Replying to @drlucymichael
The notion that an official could "forget" to pin a medal on a single child in a lineup, when that child is (1) standing appropriately to receive the medal, and (2) the only Black child in the line, is not something Gymnastics Ireland can stand over without addressing racism.

Died for not speaking English ... in Ireland. A shocking attack, leaving one man dead and one injured. This is a horrific consequence of fearmongering about diversity and immigration. It must be a wake up call.
