I’m on call this weekend for my group medical practice. Lots of vax’d patients w COVID—cough, sore throat, headache, body aches, fatigue. Mild to severe. Other top symptoms? Guilt Shame Fear “I did everything right.” “I feel like a failure.” “Doctor, I’m terrified.” 1/x

IF, in my medical practice, I took the posture of tacking down the risk of physical harms to patients to ZERO — without considering ppl’s broad human needs — I’d recommend 1) no sex, 2) no driving, 3) no alcohol, 4) no sugar. I’d only incite fear and/or QUICKLY be out of a job.

Today I swabbed yet another triple-vax'd patient for SARSCoV2: + PCR She has a stuffy nose & mild sore throat. The worse symptom? Guilt. "I did everything right." We discussed isolation & alert/test contacts. I reassured her that vax is working & this is not a moral failure

“We need to come together and say no the never ending restrictions. Your hysterical need to feel absolutely safe beyond measure is coming at someone's expense—someone much more vulnerable than you.” Thank you, ⁦@LauraRosenCohen⁩ 👏👏

I’m *much* more alarmed about the enormous social/emotional, mental & physical health consequences of “long-pandemic.” Witnessing daily.
Anyone else alarmed at what omicron spread might mean for long COVID?

This is one of the many reasons why I’m steering vax’d patients away from Paxlovid until we have more data on this rebound phenomenon.

Shielding my kids from danger is a fundamental instinct; tolerating risk for them is hard emotional work. Fear is necessary for our survival. It can also do harm. My latest for @TheAtlantic 👇👇👇

Proud to partner w my co-authors on the #UrgencyOfNormal toolkit. It’s time to define health as more than the absence of #COVID-19. “Someone has to speak up for the kids.” - Pediatric ICU physician ⁦@kwadwo777 Courage = our colleague 👇👇👇
