Everyone is important. We need to remember - and we need to remind everyone - because it seems so easily forgotten. My thoughts in @westaustralian this week.
    Newspaper article about memories.

A large part of the medical profession has backed itself into bias corner by prematurely assuming COVID-19 was or would become benign enough for us to all simply “live with” repeated infections. Now many want to grasp every straw to avoid the notion they are terribly wrong.

The main argument I hear against masks is ‘people dont want them’. Public health stops smoking, fences pools, mandates incredible car safety tech, & safe workplaces, none of which people initially wanted - but that is the whole point of a public health campaign.

Repeated COVID infection is likely to be worse than smoking for your longterm health.

‘The child who died of covid had underlying health conditions’ is a dark phrase meant to convey 1. this avoidable death wasn’t our fault even tho we started this outbreak thru carelessness then failed to control it then gave up & pretended this was not only our PLAN but /2

I'm not tired of simple #covid precautions at all. I have no problem wearing a mask when indoors in public & absolutely no issue eating alfresco or takeaway via the app & sending a tip. I can keep this up; I don't feel it is a big price for a privileged first-worlder to pay.

So NSW jumped to 16 children admitted with covid now, 3 in ICU, 1 on a ventilator, the insiders tell me. Protecting our children, whatever their prior health conditions, must be a national priority. We cant just vaccinate adults & pretend kids will be fine. Some are not already.

Your triple dose vaccine is pretty good for protection against severe omicron. However when the hospitals are overwhelmed, as most likely they will be, have you got a plan for the car accident or heart attack or stroke or cancer you might suffer? Broken hospitals are dangerous.

Just been to the shops and it seems the verdict is in - Australians mostly wont do ‘personal responsibility’. Mandate masks or it just wont happen.

Doherty model predicts about 80 deaths of kids <16 in first 180 days (70% trigger for reopening, with low starting cases). That’s why I think there are no more daily NSW press conferences. As these deaths roll in people will lose their minds that this was the IN THE PLAN.

I’m no obstetrician but I’m pretty sure Tharnicca didn’t arrive in Australia by boat.

As I travel I see maskless frail elderly being loaded onto planes with care by family. The disconnect between the love being displayed to them & the disregard for their safety is surely ignorance of airborne disease caused by failed public health messaging & misinformation.

Cant wait until the #covid movie gets to the bit where the cool kids who won't wear masks realise the geeks have been right all along & see the baddies for who they are & join the fight against airborne transmission.

Failing to mandate masks during a rampant lethal airborne pandemic is the embodiment of the principle that ‘I would rather you die than I be inconvenienced’. We cannot build a positive flourishing future for anyone carrying a mounting burden of bad faith. #COVID19 #auspol
