I'll die on this hill: Hospitals should not charge patients or staff to park. For patients, it disproportionally affects those with the lowest economic status. And for employees, you're charging them to essentially come to work; this most affects employees who make the least.

Intern year I worked a lot and had no time to make plans to see my own doctor. One day I went to work and felt horrible, my resident and attending seemed frustrated with me, as if I was milking it. I went home and woke up 10 days later in my own ICU. It was a long recovery.
What experience in the workplace radicalized you?

In college I was just about always the only black person in class. I decided to apply to medschool when I realized I was tutoring all these pre meds who are traditionally accepted. Self studied 4 MCAT. Got in, and turned out I was 1 of 2 black people. No one’s stealing seats.

My take away was live your life with no regrets. When you die you’ll be a footnote or an email at work. Never give up your health for work. I’ve spoken to a lot of dying people, none have told me they wished they only worked more. Enjoy every sunset and rainy day.

This was just before COVID outbreak, in summer ‘19. As it raged and people were anti mask I thanked the universe for giving me another yr to live. I wrote secret undelivered good bye letters to friends and family bc as I assumed I’d die in ‘19 I recall regretting not saying bye.

Pay nurses what you pay travel nurses. We all benefit when nurses stay. That's it. That's the tweet.

I think it’s weird when a patient is sent to for supposed fibromyalgia and fatigue and I’m the first to send an iron and ferritin. Her ferritin was 7. I was like, do you like eating ice? She devours it. Please send Fe + ferritin and remember fibromyalgia is a Dx of exclusion.

My biggest fear is being locked in. As my medicine team couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t move and I couldn’t figure out if I was wrong and hell was real, I sat for days intubated not being able to move. The next couple of months I needed help to eat, I used a walker, then cane
