I've been telling my story of how we turned Bump into Google Photos to new YC founders at the start of each batch. I hope sharing it more broadly inspires even a few founders to go build the future for all the rest of us. Full video in the replies.

OH in San Francisco Child: “What’s an Uber?” Adult: “It’s like a Waymo, but with a driver”

Character matters. Trump is amongst the lowest character people I’ve ever seen. I’m voting for Kamala.
If you haven't decided yet who to vote for, here's why I think you should vote for Harris.

10 years ago today, I had the idea for an app I thought was interesting. I called it Bump, and sent this email to Andy Huibers. Here’s a thread with some memories and lessons learned in the last 10 years.

I wish macOS would show internet speed here or somewhere else very glanceable. (Why do I have to run "speed tests" all the time?!)

After 9 years at Google, I’m finally getting to use Zoom and Slack in real work situations, and…..they are great products holy cow!

.@Tesla, might I suggest that you cache some map data for the local area of the driver so that one never sees a blank map? cc @elonmusk

I desperately want to connect my Gmail, Calendar, and Google Photos to ChatGPT so it can know my life and help me more. Today’s example: “when was my last haircut?” Kind of absurd that Gemini doesn’t have this already. What a self own.

Today was my last day at Google, 9 years after the Bump acquisition. I couldn’t be more proud of the Google Photos product and team, or more thankful to our users. Next for me: helping founders as a visiting group partner at @ycombinator!

Hard to believe Google Photos is 5 years old today. Couldn't be more proud of this team -- what started as a simple photo management tool has become the home to more than 1B people's memories. Much more to build. (Also, much to improve!)

Got my new iPhone yesterday! Spent the entire evening trying to log in to nearly every single app again. My annual reminder that no team ever actually cares about the onboarding experience, since they rarely have to do it themselves.

A story about the magic of Silicon Valley's pay-it-forward culture: When I was fighting leukemia, the founder of a very successful startup (that basically all founders now use daily) owned a condo in our building that they weren’t using. I asked if I could rent it so my parents

I’ve made or seen hundreds of hires, and one thing I have never seen is a B player hire an A player. Not once. If you play that out, you realize that compromising on even a single role can destroy a team forever.

As Bezos once said, Taste is not transferable across domains. Elon’s great taste in electric cars and rockets gives him false confidence on social networks. I suspect the team at Twitter intentionally isn’t improving the Following feed so that the For You feed has better
