In the cold, wet, and grey days of exile in England, Maama wrote a secret prayer:
"Dear Lord, I pray that you protect me and my family. I want to see my children growing up marrying and having grandchildren. I also pray that I die in my country." Her prayer was answered . 🙏🏿
Today we celebrated my mother @JoyceRMpanga's 90th birthday! With her is her classmate Auntie Adelina Lubogo who turns 90 later this year. We thank God for Maama's life!
If you see a man looking like this and feel like you have to "both sides" your condemnation of torture then there is something wrong with you! Torture is wrong. Torture is abhorrent. Torture is inhumane and degrading. State agents must stop torturing people!
Our ancestors must have seen a year like this before. So Luganda has no literal phrase for "Happy New Year". We don't know what's coming. We say "Kulika Omwaka!" loosely, "Congratulations on surviving the past year!" We have made it thus far by the grace of God. Mukulike Omwaka!
A burglar(s) broke into my mother's house last night. My mother's driver tussled with the burglar & disarmed him of a knife. The driver went to the Lugujja Police Station this morning. They said they couldn't do anything unless my 88 year old mother came to the station herself.
When you hear these words said by a Government official: "a raft of measures"; "doing all we can"; "we are going the extra mile"; "leaving no stone unturned"; "we are fully engaged with the affected community"; or "we are now on the ground", just know that NOTHING is being done.
A perfect working day has been wasted. But nobody will lose their job or even a single day's allowance over this debacle. Nobody will even bother to apologise. Complacency, blind acceptance of abuse, waste, and mediocrity are the order of the day. #UgandaCensus2024
