Ulster University attempting to blame their near-bankruptcy on Magee expansion - to which they contributed ZERO capital - and away from their unnecessary and unsanctioned £400m new campus in North Belfast. Coleraine and Derry must stand together and challenge Belfast greed.
Concerns have been raised about the impact job losses at Ulster University would have on its Coleraine campus and the wider economy on the north coast. bbc.in/4ud44id

There could be no more fitting legacy to John Hume than for his home city to establish its own university.

UU Belfast has no authority to change the name of a university college in the North West, which is held in trust by the people of Derry and which precedes UU's chequered existence by 100 years. We need a new cross-border commission to run Magee as an autonomous university - NOW!
Staff have been told to no longer use "Magee" in external communications, according to emails seen by BBC News NI. @brendanhughes64 has the story bbc.in/3LpoqQZ

Hate to one-up @naomi_long and all, but we have a letter from UU written in 1984 promising 10000 students in Derry by 1990…

Stormont underspend for 21/22 will be up to £300m - which would build the North West its own university. Will any of our parties make this a redline issue - and if not, why not?

Dublin and London are now on board, the need has been proven again and again, but 60 years on Stormont is still trying to stall. Time to end Derry's wait and build an independent university - free from Belfast. irishnews.com/news/northerni…

Derry fought tooth in nail for 20-plus years to get 70 medical students - for which we will pay £45m out of City Deal resources. Belfast has just given itself 80 new medical students at the stroke of a pen. Can you imagine it had been the other way about?

Breaking: Dublin plans to invest €500m in cross-border projects - including Derry university facilities - in today's budget:

Council will tomorrow debate a proposal to stop City Deal funding being given to UU. This £85m, coupled with the return of Magee and its running budgets to the city-region, can best be used to allow us develop our own great, independent university. We need to invest in ourselves.
