    Why oh why do academics (or is this an economist thing?) love to say "We are the first to test whether .....". As an editor, I have yet to see such a claim sit nicely with referees. There are either enough qualifiers on the statement to make it come across as silly

    How about instead: (1) state what you are doing. (2) tell us what others have done that is similar, and (3) tell us how this is different and why those differences are important.
