In 2022, I wrote a post that set off a debate about the political divide between young men and women. Four years, many polls, & hundreds of interviews later, I'm excited to announce the book documenting what's happening to Gen Z men and women and why.

This is a massive and pretty unexpected change. Less than half of Rs now saying being Christian is an important part of being American.

We conducted a major survey on the state of civic life in America. The most jaw-dropping finding was the rapid decline in social connections among Americans without degrees. Nearly 1/4 have no close friends.

Woah. What is happening with Republicans on the morality of same-sex relations? Massive drop.

This should be a bigger story. There was a massive gender divide (according to exits) in the youth vote. Young women: 72% D / 26% R Young men: 54% D / 43% R This is consistent with our pre-election polling. And analysis showing an emerging ideological divide.

Men have experienced a much steeper decline in the number of close friends they have. It's dramatic.

I'm increasingly convinced that the abortion issue is going to drive young women away from religion. We saw this happen on same-sex marriage for millennials, & now I'm wondering whether the same thing will happen to Gen Z. Open to argument here...

Yep. Wrote about this recently. Not much evidence that Millennials are becoming more conservative. open.substack.com/pub/storylines…
NEW: conservatives have a Millennials problem. In both UK & US, it’s not just that Millennials aren’t voting conservative because they’re young. Every previous generation grew more conservative with age, but Millennials are not playing ball. My column: enterprise-sharing.ft.com/redeem/a0c1c1b…

This is consistent with our work as well. Evangelical Republicans are more likely to believe in conspiracy theories.

And this is why defections to Trump among young men may not actually yield him many votes. Only 34% of young voters supporting Trump say they are "extremely motivated" to vote.
