So this is now, officially, real. It is a labor of love for hoops, edited w/ @johnhollinger. The great @ShotDrJr did the thing, combing through each of the 100 essays from our incredible NBA staff at @TheAthletic. Pre-orders available now; drops 11/26. Humbly, it's a good read.

I've been covering the NBA for 37 years. Almost nothing that happens – deals, free agent signings, coach hirings/firings – rises to the level of, as the great Ben Bradlee used to call them, "Holy S--t" stories. You just get used to the unexpected. This is a "Holy S--t" trade.

Caitlin Clark is great. Kamilla Cardoso is great. Iowa is great. South Carolina is great. Bluder and Dawn are great. This title game is great. Paige is great. Aziaha James is great. JuJu is great. ESPN's studio show is great. This tournament is great. Can we all stop hating on

In the spring of 2004, ESPN let me go. It was unmooring. It was a shock. I had a wife and baby to take care of. That fall, Jeff Behnke and Jeff Ogan hired me to work at Turner Sports. It was the best time I ever had in my life. Godspeed, @NBAonTNT. You saved me. I love you all.

Pat Riley is one win away from his 19th appearance in an NBA Finals as a player, coach or executive. Nineteen! That will mean Riley has either played in, coached in or been his team's top decision maker in 24.7 percent of ALL THE FINALS in NBA history!

I worked for Turner Sports, which operated NBA TV & NBA.com in partnership w/the league, for 14 years. You know what David Stern did when I wrote or said something he didn’t like? He called me up and cussed me out. But he didn’t go to my bosses & try to fire me.

That was dreadful. Again. I am beginning to think this game is irredeemable. I am not sure why even minimal defense effort is beyond this generation of All-Stars. But it may be time to end this game if they can't give more of a damn than that.
