Left my wallet in a Parisian taxi last night. It stayed there all day until a customer found it, the driver managed to get in touch with me, just drove through half of Paris to return it, refused any tip and left with nice comments about Sweden. Not all is lost in this world.

Before living in 🇸🇪 I used to wonder why my Swedish colleagues had this urge to get back home for the summer. Now I know. #Klövberget

Dîner à Vilnius. L'un de mes voisins, que j'interroge sur la vision lituanienne de l'Europe : "C'est un projet de dignité humaine." Une bonne définition.

So long, Sweden ! Sad to leave this beautiful country, the many friends we've made, the great team at the Embassy and Residence. But looking forward to coming back and happy to pass the baton to an excellent colleague and friend, Who Shall Soon Be Named. Stay tuned !

Sorry to be boring but French government policy is based on 2 simple ideas : 1. Flirting is fine, violence against women in any form is not ; 2. Cases of violence must be reported and handled by the police and justice systems, which must be equipped accordingly.

This means that we need to draw a very clear, legal line between flirting and violence. This is not rocket science, in my view, in spite of what some (mostly but apparently not exclusively men) would like us to believe. A draft law will soon be presented to this end.

There we go again with Catherine Deneuve and others warning against a drift towards puritanism (actually a prevalent view in France) and claiming that some degree of harassment is an inevitable price to pay for sexual freedom (a highly controversial view, to say the least).

We also need a debate on the underlying social/historical factors enabling violence against women, and on the ways to redefine our social contract to correct them without falling into the (American) trap of codifying acceptable behavior.

Long fil en hommage à Hagop Ghazarian, qui nous a quittés la semaine dernière. Il était le gestionnaire de notre ambassade en Arménie. Sa rencontre a été déterminante pour moi.
