    I am delighted to announce that Liane Segal will be my Mayoress of Lewisham for the next year. Liane fled Nazi occupied Europe on the Kindertransport aged 7. Liane has been a longstanding campaigner against racism & antisemitism. Let’s share her story. We are #RefugeesWelcome!🌈

    Lewisham is becoming a Sanctuary Borough for refugees, migrants & asylum seekers. That’s why we’ve announced the removal of the Home Office official at @LewishamCouncil. Thank you to our local activist groups who have worked with us to make this happen.

    The government is failing in it’s most basic duty and it’s truly shameful. We can’t stand by and let this happen which is why I am proud that @LewishamCouncil will be supporting schools to provide free school meals this half term.

    Some good news - we’ve secured £24m investment for Lewisham Town Centre! Money will be used to improve the market with an all-weather canopy, a renovated library with rooftop cafe, plants and trees, refurbished clock tower, space to cycle, space to walk. lewisham.gov.uk/articles/news/…

    Today we formally welcomed 13 new refugee families to Lewisham. All of them spoke about the warm welcome they have received. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved and to our amazing Lewisham community for supporting this programme. 💖

    Last year was a big one for me. I became Lewisham’s Mayor & also converted to Judaism. As a Labour representative I’ve been anxious talking about the latter, but it’s something I’m proud of & has a positive impact on my life. Thanks to friends, family, @BromleyShul for support.
