    a tragic part of a serious relationship ending is the language you shared together being lost - all those facial expressions, jokes, noises, verbal intimacies that only the 2 of you understood, become a dead language never to be spoken again

    the other night at a party in Oxford this guy called Paul asked what I did for a living,I said “a lecturer in philosophy”.He was angered & demanded more info. I said I’m “mainly a philosopher of art etc” He replied: “wtf, it’s so embarrassing that you’d call urself a philosopher”

    yesterday I said goodbye to my pride and joy - my little Tudor house on Trumpington St. I feel privileged to have lived in a dwelling that saw so much and held so many people for five centuries. It was in every way perfect, and I’ll miss it terribly.

    I’ve noticed that my having a PhD/being an academic has upset too many men on dating apps.Many don’t ask a single q about my job/work, 1 thought my PhD was fake and I should ‘prove’ it was real. Others get v defensive about their education. Is this just intimidation & insecurity?
