    My mother transitioned last night. She passed one wk & two days before her birthday, so I’m sharing this video of us dancing to one of our favorite songs—Native New Yorker—on her birthday last year. 🖤 I’ll be taking some time to bask in her glory and spend time with loved ones.

    🚨Today, I received a DM from a neighbor that I haven’t met before, and I am completely aghast. He told me that his wife received my absentee ballot, which had me so confused...because I just received my ballot in the mail. How could he have my ballot when mine just arrived?🧐 1/

    🚨Folks, this is serious. We need to cancel all unnecessary indoor gatherings, mask up, get boosted & be particularly cautious around our immunocompromised neighbors. I’m working with the city to identify additional testing sites in my district. Let’s be vigilant & not lose hope!

    People are often shocked to hear I’d be the first gay Black woman elected in NYC in 2021. But I’ve seen firsthand why that is. The hoops we have to jump through. The reality of being both completely unseen & hyper visible. Hate, vitriol & disparagement. Patriarchy & misogynoir.

    So I called him & opened all 3 of my family’s absentee ballots, and here’s what I found: 🗳My ballot envelope had my mother’s ballot in it. 🗳My partner’s envelope had another neighbor’s ballot. 🗳My mother’s envelope had yet another neighbor’s ballot. 2/
