Just a random stop on the SW side of Champaign because the silks were turning brown. I picked three ears off the outside row. Surprised the dickens out of me. About six feet tall including the tassel.

I am heading to Fargo, ND today. Going the long way right across the middle of Iowa. Last night I went to Effingham, IL straight down I-57 from Champaign. That crop will make your heart sink. Follow along all day long today for a windshield tour.

Fall 1975 | I am 11 years old and we're dumping on the run. Dad had a lot of faith in me. I still like driving the grain cart. When we were hauling to town (across old Rt. 66) we'd dump two wagons on the run. I recall standing on the seat to see the back one.

FYI there was a serious traffic jam in Arthur, Illinois early this morning getting into Horse Progress Days. Way cool stuff. I'm putting together a piece about a 24-foot horse-drawn sickle-mower.
