    After months of declaring that Black Lives Matter, every single Democratic City Councilmember voted against the Peoples Budget & my office's proposal to develop legislation to establish an elected community oversight board with full powers over police, including hiring & firing.

    I just announced that I'll bring legislation banning police use of chemical weapons (including teargas, mace, pepper spray), rubber bullets/bean bags, water cannons, sonic/ultra-sonic weapons, and banning purchase of weapons, along with their use. We'll need a movement to win.

    Our Tax Amazon movement has made history! Seattle City Council just voted to pass an Amazon Tax on the largest corporations to fund affordable housing & jobs, to begin to end racist gentrification. This is entirely because of the thousands of working people, unions, socialists!

    It's deeply unfortunate it was the right wing who've shown how to fight for something in Congress. The Squad, also the Progressive Caucus headed by Jayapal, have utterly failed - refused - to use their leverage to stand up to Dem establishment & win ANY gains for working people.

    All but 1 of “Squad” crossed the picket line, voting w/ Dem-Rep majority to break rail workers’ strike. A socialist can't be a strike breaker. This should result in expulsion from DSA. Failing that, the Squad’s betrayal of workers becomes DSA’s betrayal.

    Just got maced and gassed with hundreds others by Seattle police on 11th & Pine. With no provocation. All the movement was demanding was: Let us march! Shameful violence under Mayor Durkan. And the 30-day tear gas pause is totally meaningless. Durkan Must Go. #DefundPolice

    What Minneapolis City Council actually did in relation to police: Pass a resolution to create a yearlong study, AKA, spend a year pretending they’re doing something & hope the movement dies down in the meantime. This same Council voted to increase the police budget 6 months ago.

    Over 3 million Americans have lost their jobs. We're heading into a deep recession. Jeff Bezos is $5.5 billion richer today, while exploiting delivery, grocery, and warehouse workers. Tomorrow, I'll be announcing an accelerated Tax Amazon bill to fund citywide #COVID19 relief.

    In city after city, Democrats have betrayed promises made during the height of #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd. Demonstrating yet again that our movements, and movement leadership, need to be independent of the political establishment. And that we need a new party for the working class.

    Biden & Democrats had no issue bypassing Congressional oversight to attack Syria. But they apparently couldn't overrule the non-binding opinion of the Senate parliamentarian for a $15/hour minimum wage. Democrats use rules & "decorum" to justify selling out working people.
