Chugach is Alaska's largest electric utility, providing power to nearly 90,000 members from Anchorage to the northern Kenai Peninsula & from Whittier to Tyonek.
- Still one of the best 1% for Art pieces in Anchorage.
- There is a tree stuck in lines in the Huffman area that urgently needs to be removed and the lines repaired. In order to remove the tree and make repairs safely, we will have to de-energize members around the area.
- Good progress in the past couple of hours. We are down to 710 members without power. Thank you for your patience as crews keep working. What a night!
- With things relatively quiet in Anchorage, we are happy to be able to help our friends at @meacoop with outage response. Alaskans helping each other. It’s what we do.
- 8 pm: From of high of 17,500, we are down to just over 8,000 members without power. Due to the number of outages and the challenging conditions, we will not be able to give restoration times. But multiple crews will be working through the night and into the morning. 1/2
- 6:30 am : Much of the night was spent responding with AFD & APD to hazards such as downed powerlines in the street, pole fires, arcing wires. Restoration continues on outages and fresh crews are coming in this morning. As always, our crews work as safely & quickly as possible
- Members should prepare to be out of power for several hours, perhaps all day and into tomorrow. The transmission line between Girdwood & Portage is out of service and that is the priority, taking precedence over consumer outages.
- Our outage map is working again, so you can track outages on our website. Crews will continue to assess and inspect, and restore power as they can. Our focus is on safety. Outage map is here: chugachelectric.com/outages
- 11:10pm — Hope and Girdwood are now without power. We will get crews there when we can. No ETA at this time with the roads so treacherous. Please be patient as our crews continue to work. Nothing happens quickly in these conditions. Safety is the #1 priority.
- The wind is starting to take a toll with a handful of outages across Anchorage. We have a crew working in the O'Malley area and one in the Boniface area working on restoration. You can track outages on our outage map at chugachelectric.com/outages
- 9:20 am: We recognize that some members have been without power for several hours. We have 10 crews currently working as safely and quickly as possible to restore power. Thank you for your patience.
- 7 pm update: The damage to poles and wires in Girdwood is extensive. Estimated time of restoration for the members without power is 7 am Sunday.
- 11 pm: All outages related to the windstorm are restored.
