It's my fourth year teaching here @UMichLaw, and my fourth big game since moving to The School Up North. We love it here in Michigan, but our football loyalties remain unchanged. ๐ค
Time to re-up my favorite welcome video:
Some personal news: After a decade working on @OSU_Law faculty and living in Columbus, this summer we'll be moving a few hours north, where I'll join @UMichLaw faculty.
A quick ๐งต reflecting on how Ohio State has been such an amazing professional home over the last ten years:
In Federal Courts, my students take turns in pairs doing recap presentations of the prior class's material. I thought this slide from their presentation captured pretty well our discussion of Bivens:
As a member of @ABAesq and chair-elect of one of its sections, I urge the ABA to withdraw this letter and rating and pledge to improve its process of evaluating judicial nominees to ensure the process is fair and impartial.
The ABA committee that vets judicial nominees gave a rare "not qualified" to 9th Circuit nominee Lawrence VanDyke, currently a DOJ official. Interviewees described him as "arrogant, lazy, an ideologue, and lacking in knowledge of the day-today practice" americanbar.org/content/dam/abโฆ
It's sad to see SCOTUSblog slowly dying away -- turning from stats and substantive content in every case to TikTok and hotter takes. It would be great if some law school acquired it and returned it to its original form (or even better).
I was disappointed in @nytimes for running smear article on D.C. Circuit Judge Griffith yesterday. If they had done a bit more digging, it was pretty widely known in DC legal circles that the judge decided to retire last year due to spouse's health issues. npr.org/2020/05/05/850โฆ
Judge Kavanaugh's Senate Judiciary Committee #SCOTUS nom questionnaire is now available on the SJC website: judiciary.senate.gov/nominations/juโฆ Here are the ten opinions he deems most significant (of his ~300 opinions):
I love it here @UMichLaw, but especially on game day, I'm missing my colleagues, students, and friends @OSU_Law / @OhioState. A decade of wonderful memories.
So this video was a lot of fun to do. ๐
Sometimes I wonder whether tweeting out #appellatetwitter or #adlaw job opportunities is worth it . Not anymore. Received a nice email today from someone who saw my tweet, applied, and just got the job! ๐ค๐ฅณ
