    Stanley Hollis worked in a chip shop, went to sea, was a lorry driver, joined the army, BEF at Dunkirk, 8th Army at El Alamein, Tunis, Sicily, landed at Gold Beach & won the Victoria Cross with Sten, Bren & PIAT. Wounded after D-Day. Post war, he became a Pub Landlord. @almurray

    6 Jun 1944: CSM Stanley Hollis, 6th Btn Green Howards, knocked out 2 pill boxes with a Sten & grenades, captured 26 POWs, attacked a field gun with a PIAT, then used a Bren to rescue 2 comrades. Awarded the only #VictoriaCross for #DDay. @YORKS_REGT

    You can’t marry or join the army without parental consent at 16. You can’t get a credit card at 16. You don’t pay Council Tax at 16. You can’t drive a car at 16. You can’t buy alcohol aged 16. You can’t be sent to an adult prison aged 16. #VotesAt16 Rights & Responsibilities

    Perhaps on podiums women could adopt a gesture to demonstrate this, similar to the ❤️ with both hands but showing a “W” for women instead - to show solidarity. Men should do it too.
