The past week was one of the most joyous – and scary – of my life. (a 🧵) I gave birth to my daughter and my heart grew several sizes. Then the “silent killer” after childbirth hit me and I nearly died.

Jonathan Smith, 30, saved ~30 people last night before he was shot in the neck. He might live w/the bullet for rest of his life. #vegasstrip

Roughly 275,000 federal workers lost their jobs this week. That's over 10% of the federal workforce. ~75,000 took the "buyout" ~200,000 probationary workers were let go (the WH has not confirmed the total, but this is how many were on probationary status) That's a lot of lives

Harris has proposed giving $6,000 (via refundable tax credit) to families in the 1st year of a baby's life. Flint, Michigan has been doing exactly that for the past year. The results are incredible: -Fewer babies born with low birthweight -No families evicted in baby 1st year

What makes @katelyn_ohashi 's "perfect 10" this weekend even more inspiring is that she almost quit the sport a few years ago b/c she was so burned out from Olympic training. Today her joy is back. She took care of herself and found her passion again.

And...that's a wrap. Brazilian President Bolsonaro spoke for less than 15 minutes. Big fail. He had the entire world watching and his best line was to tell people to come vacation in Brazil. Bolsonaro is billed as "South American Trump" but he appeared tepid. #Davos #WEF19

Wow. I think Biden’s commuting the sentence of this disgraced Pa judge is a big mistake. I covered this in my Pa media days. He was one of 2 judges receiving $$ to sentence kids to lengthy sentences in a for-profit juvenile prison. He ruined a lot of kids’ lives. Good summary

BREAKING: U.S. inflation was up 6.2% in October over a year ago. That’s the highest inflation in 31 years. Inflation was up 0.9% in Oct. alone, a much higher increase than 0.4% in Sept. and 0.3% in August. Prices are rising for food, energy, shelter, used cars and new cars.

Big red flag: K-12 education lost more than 21,000 workers in September. Public education remains one of the least recovered industries from the pandemic. **There are 309,000 fewer teachers and support staff than pre-pandemic**
