This sumptuous beadwork basket was made by Elizabeth Clerke in about 1675, when she was 20 years old. She may have made it to celebrate her betrothal to Samuel Green who she married in 1676 #burrellcollection #glasgowlife #museumfromhome #beadwork

Embroidered coifs were a type of cap worn by wealthy married women in late 1500s & early 1600s. Some embroidered in coloured silks others in blackwork, some even in silver or gilt threads. Which is your favourite? #glasgowmuseums #textilethursday #embroidery #talkingaboutheritage

As well as embroidery a wealthy girl in the mid-1600s may have been taught beadwork. Hundreds of tiny coloured glass beads were stitched individually into place to make this decorative panel (English c1630-80) #burrellcollection #museumfromhome #textilethursday #beadwork

This pretty sampler includes a lady dressed in the fashions of about 1625-35. She is holding a flower and may be a personification of either Smell, one of the Five Senses, or Flora, the goddess of Spring #burrellcollection #glasgowlifegoeson #museumfromhome #embroidery #sampler

King Charles II and his wife Catherine of Braganza decorate the cover of this shallow mirror case or jewellery box, made by a young girl of about 12, likely from a kit, as part of her education in the late 1660s or 1670s. #museumfromhome #textilethursday #beadwork #embroidery

The Burrell hosted a very special visitor this afternoon when His Majesty King Charles III officially re-opened the refurbished museum, almost exactly 39 years after Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II first visited. Hundreds of local children helped give a loud royal welcome.
