When you get off the plane with the legendary Joan Baez you know it’s a movement of the spirit. She stands with us in our struggle in Tennessee and said she’s hopeful to see young voices leading.
“WE SHALL OVERCOME…”
Serendipitous, indeed.
Accepting the election results does not mean we will passively accept fascism.
Like many, I woke up feeling despair. Our nation is broken and sick, but it is in times like these we must remain unbowed.
To District 52, thank you for re-electing me to fight this MAGA extremism.
In the end, the people of Tennessee made the ultimate choice of courage and hope. Thank you to the thousands who came to the people’s house today to show the nation that we will not yield to authoritarian attacks on our democracy. Our fight is not over. #notonestepback ✊🏾
Yesterday, we were expelled from the Tennessee state house. Today, we were talking to the White House about common sense gun laws and protecting our democracy. We fight on! ✊🏾
Earlier, I spoke to Reps Jones, Pearson, and Johnson to thank them for their leadership and courage in the face of a blatant disregard of our nation’s democratic values.
Our country needs to take action on gun violence — to do that we need more voices like theirs speaking out.
Tonight as Tennessee House Republicans push forward to schedule vote on our expulsion, Speaker Sexton orders the gallery cleared as crowd chants “fascists.”
Media forced out at as well.
Then, Rep. Lafferty (R-Knox) pushes me and grabs my phone.
This is a sad day for Tennessee.
Thank you, @SenMikeLee, for joining me in drawing attention to the gross habit of the media to sensationalize mass murderers.
@jordanbpeterson perfectly explains why this resolution is so critical.

Scott you literally voted to expel us from the Tennessee legislature in an unconstitutional, politically motived, pre-determined expulsion trial.
Maybe sit this one out, brother.
Just left an event honoring a Black sorority and spoke of the need to unite against the rising tide of white supremacy, only to be confronted by Nazis marching through downtown Nashville.
This is exactly what my Republican colleagues hate speech is fostering and inviting.
Today on the Tennessee House floor two white members had to be physically pulled apart for trying to fight.
The Republican Leader called it “spirited debate” and called me a “snowflake” for calling for a censure vote.
But last year, we were EXPELLED for speaking out of turn.
My heart!! 🥺
My friend said her son Marco has been growing his hair out for a special Halloween outfit. When they ask me what I do and who I do it for, it’s for the children.
Here’s also a good reminder to get out to vote and keep up the good trouble y’all!! ✊🏾📢🗳️💛
