"Our first duty is to keep America out of foreign wars. Our entry would only destroy democracy, not save it. ‘The path to war is a false path to freedom.’”
My latest, "The Lost Liberalism of America First," and a companion thread are below.

"The tank will eliminate the infantry."
"The airplane will make naval power obsolete."
"Nuclear warfare will make conventional warfare obstacle."

Two days ago, the idea that Israel might pull us into a war with Iran was "hysterical," "unfounded," "paranoid," etc.
Now, it's a stated policy preference.
The United States joining a strike on Fordow and any other facilities that remain is a must at this point.
The regime has every incentive to dash to nuclear weapons using whatever they have left and must be stopped.
I used to be a self-assured liberal interventionist.
And then I wasted my 20s fighting a stupid war that we ended up losing.
But hey, I'm not a managing editor of a once-funny satire site. What do I know?
As a former intelligence officer (and CIA detailee), I'm alarmed by comments that equate legitimate foreign policy critique with foreign propaganda. Such slurs undermine the spirit of our Constitution, a document that I presume that @RepSpanberger took an oath to defend.
As a former CIA officer, I'm alarmed by Tulsi Gabbard’s nomination to serve as DNI.
If she spreads Kremlin propaganda online, why wouldn't she include it in the President's Daily Brief?
This isn't about a political party — it’s about America's national security.

This is why the "Why don't you go?" dig cuts so deep. The foreign policy hive mind is obsessed with "larger issues" and not pesky material ones like: Who fight? With what? Where and under what circumstances?
They can't outsource their bravery anymore and they know it.
For anyone who thinks that this is a good idea, ask yourself why you assume that the outcome will go any better than our attempt to wipe out the Taliban.
A slight quibble with Carlson's history: the Right didn't uniformly accept the orthodox line on the bombings until well into the 1970s. Many of the early a-bomb dropping disrespecters were conservatives
"At Hiroshima the target was the heart of a teeming city. The great majority of those obliterated were civilians, including thousands of children trapped in the 33 schools that were destroyed."
Let's just leave out the virtually unlimited diplomatic cover they receive from the US and the fact that they're largest recipient of US foreign assistance in history.
It's easy to "command respect" when you're being underwritten by the US taxpayer.
The Israelis command respect. They understand their enemies, ruthlessly prioritize their interests, demonstrate near-constant tactical brilliance, and are not afraid to buck elite opinion. It's a model of statecraft we would be wise to study and, in many ways, emulate.
