After spending a lifetime not riding buses out of fear and hatred of the poor, area man rides bus for the first time out of fear and hatred of the poor riding them for free in the future
is there a covid spike b/c people get a little reckless after 10pm or because millions of people have to go to work indoors in this city everyday b/c there is no material support, only moralizing personal responsibility campaigns
Palantir CEO Alex Karp was profiled by @WSJ before the launch of his book The Technological Republic next week:
“Delphic and overcaffeinated, he has presided over a surge in business for Palantir while also calling on his industry to help the West win a clash of civilizations.”
Having taught in the CUNY system for 7+ years now, I do think we are witnessing the collapse of public education in NYC. The vast majority of my students cannot write a coherent sentence. This is something we are clearly sweeping under the rug and it has been getting worse.
I always tell my students that I accept low stake reasons for not doing assignments like--'too boring,' 'hungover,' 'phone addiction,' 'busy',but they always opt 4 extreme medical emergencies & it's like ofc fine, excused but damn the horror fucks me up 1/4 of you hospitalized rn
There has been a lot of unthoughtful grandstanding about Zohran's supposed retreat from abolitionist positions. But the question of what an abolitionist politics means today is open & fraught.
Pig-gratifying bullshit:
“Police are critical to creating public safety across the city”
“My proposal was born out of conversations with rank-and-file officers”
“My desire is for the police to be able to do their jobs”
“We’re sustaining the headcount of the police department”
There are simply no resources to address this problem. Campus writing centers cannot replace the formal instruction in grammar and style that is clearly not being taught in K-12. What are instructors supposed to do?
Every leftist should take a break from arguing about an election we can’t impact + share the campaign of a socialist, BDS mayoral candidate.
Today only all NYC donations b/w $10-$250 are matched 8x by the state. If you’ve ever posted about the presidential election, bump this
Every politician says New York is the greatest city in the world. But what good is that if no one can afford to live here?
I'm running for Mayor to lower the cost of living for working class New Yorkers.

I believe composition classes must be made mandatory for first years at CUNY and must focus almost exclusively on basic grammar and style.
In order for this to happen as a major system-wide intervention CUNY would need to be fully funded meaning:
To the people shrieking ‘both,’ the point of the tweet isn’t to ascertain what venues this airborne disease can be contracted in, but to respond to the closing of bars a single hour earlier, rather than developing a robust response 4 the millions who must work...like bartenders
All we have now is austerity + neoliberal professional development initiatives, which are only acting to hide the extent and the degree of the crisis in writing and reading skills that is occurring in the NYC public education.
made tuition-free, adjuncts paid a living-wage, and departments funded enough to orchestrate what would necessarily have to be a complete rehaul of programs to develop student writing skills.
