The minister who shared the text with van Onselen and gave permission to use it was Peter Dutton. If PM Morrison has one more week in free fall the prospect of a leadership change pre-election is real. Party rules don’t count if most MPs think you will lead them to defeat.

- I’m told Norway, Spain & Ireland will make a coordinated announcement announcing a joint move to recognise Palestine on 1967 borders. All will formally recognise on May 28 once internal processes are done. Slovenia will follow on June 13. Belgium and France also in play.
- A “foundation” walked away with $18 million without a competitive process. Appalling. GG must explain his role in securing funding from Morrison. Talk of “Royal” associations won’t carry it. I’ve written to the Federal Treasurer asking for full inquiry and return of the money.
- I never created such a job when I was Premier because I knew an expensive NY office won't deliver a single new trade contract or dollop of investment. Savvy US business will make its own decisions, not listen to a retired hack spruiking payroll tax concessions. Expensive joke.
- A relief. But as the speaker at an event yesterday I sat at main table and was only one wearing mask and insisting on elbows not hands. Today one of the guests advises they have tested positive. Why this resistance to basic precautions? Why aren’t we all wearing masks?
- Gaza running out of food and medicine as result of longest blockade so far in the war. Bakeries closing. Imagine: no food or medicine for babies or the aged. One word summarises this: Genocide.
- Whoa! I’m being told by Jillian Segal that if I criticise Israeli land grabs or violence against Palestinians I’m talking anti-semitism. But her husband’s family trust is funding anti-Palestinian, anti-immigrant campaigns & opposition to welcome to country
- I learnt Nazis were genocidal racists through history at a state high school, books from a mobile library and productions like Rise and Fall. With a private school and heaps of privilege how did young Perrottet miss out? Verdict: he is now unelectable.
- No Tony he wasn’t the greatest Australian Catholic. Try Mannix or John Bede Polding. Pell was a culture war brawler. He held to kindergarten-level climate denialism. He was a fond protector of the criminal Ridsdale. No moral or intellectual titan at all.
- Barilaro scandal is capable of devouring the premier. If it goes ahead the opposition can ask each month what trade or investment deal he’s pulled off. Not lunches or cocktails but contracted outcomes. And FOI all expenses. This can’t survive: worse than Metherell.
- Israel in 2018 passed a nationalities law creating 2 categories of citizenship based on religion. It has 2 sets of laws governing occupied Palestine eg Jewish people in the occupied territory get to vote and Arabs don’t. Apartheid: what other word applies? Call it by its name
- Take it from me: the Governor General’s role in getting $18m from Morrison for a charity without a record, office or program and no competitive bid is set to be the most controversial vice regal indulgence since Kerr’s dismissal of Whitlam.
- Yes, war crime. Yes, prima facie genocide. Looking at the footage out of Rafah one must ask: is there any shred of decency to be found among the Israeli leadership? How many more Palestinian kids are now to be buried under rubble?
- I and many others are just sick of the Israel lobby bullying universities, arts organisations, political parties. Congratulations to Tony Burke and Creative Australia for re-engaging Khaled Sabsabi.
