- Just asked a LASIK surgeon if he had any statistics about rates of complications at his clinic, or rates of patients reporting dry eyes 6 months out He asked if I was a reporter (in a thick New York accent) and said no patient had ever asked for that before in 20 years
- Replying to @birdpathyHe did not have the statistics - he couldn't even say how many times he's performed different procedures. I said "I know everyone collects different stats" to give him an out. He said actually he "knows every surgeon in NYC" and none of them would know these numbers.
- Replying to @Fefe_no_covfefeI'm just trying to minimize my risk by finding the best surgeon in my area. Alas, doctors hate being evaluated...
- I can never leave the rationalist sphere, even if I agreed with all the critiques, for the simple reason that rationalists are the only subculture that passes the extremely low bar of actually thinking death is actually bad

- people expect their partners to be more capable than they themselves are. But, they also expect their partners to be loyal, to not cheat on them, and to have excellent sex with them rather than turn them into paperclips. Achieving this is a significant open research problem
