    I am told the PM has now taken the decision to shelve the Manchester leg of HS2. Confirmation, and detail of the re-allocation of funds to other transport projects in the north, will presumably come very soon.

    Last night @McrLabour elected me as the new Leader of Manchester. I’m humbled to have the privilege to lead our fantastic city. Commiserations to the other great candidates @RahmanCllr @GarryBridges @Ekua4Hulme but Mcr Labour is strong & united. Manchester- We won’t let you down

    Without consultation and under the banner of blaming workers- Avanti took a unilateral decision to cut off Manchester indefinitely. Today alongside @AndyBurnhamGM & @SadiqKhan we wrote to @grantshapps for an urgent meeting demanding a reinstatement or to withdraw the franchise.

    Manchester’s new park in the sky! Fantastic to see the transformation of part of the Castlefield Viaduct led by @nationaltrust & local partners. Initially a pilot but hopefully will get rolled out to become even bigger and better.

    Just a reminder, the Govts own analysis showed an integrated HS2 and NPR would: - Add £9bn to GMs economy each year - Add £24bn a year to the Norths economy - Create 96,000 jobs - Improve capacity and connectivity - Close the productivity gap with London Levelling up is dead.

    Back under 400 cases per 100k for the first time since September with 2209 cases in the last 7 days. Come on Manchester, let’s keep this up. It’s not nice, but it’s working in bringing the figures down. Let’s keep looking out for each other.

    A fantastic result for Manchester Labour- across the city the people of Manchester put our trust in us. We will always work hard to achieve great things for our city. Labour hold 92 of 96 seats- a resounding mandate for our city.
