A small demonstration of LeBron’s incredible basketball IQ: 30 seconds from Game 4.

So, uh, the Raptors have been pretty good with Marc Gasol on the court. In a little over 500 minutes with him playing they have a point differential of +16 per 100 possessions, the equivalent of a 73 win team.

Victor Oladipo is yet another example of the need to be cautious with draft analysis until many years after the draft. 4 years after he was picked he was viewed as a decent player, but not someone who lived up to his #2 selection. And now, 5 years after his draft, he’s All-NBA.

My thought process watching this clip: Hmm, they're not doubling Jokic in the post. Oh, they're doubling from the baseline, and Jokic doesn't see it. Wow, he's going to spin right into it. Nevermind.

Something to watch: how teams defend the back screen pick-and-roll that is used a lot now. Watch HOU run it three straight times vs. OKC.

I’ve heard multiple places say Ben Simmons is 0/7 from three on the year. That’s misleading - they’ve all been heaves! It would be more accurate to say he hasn’t attempted a three. That’s why I don’t include heaves in the stats on Cleaning the Glass.

This is *really* hard to defend. AD post up, split action with LeBron and a shooter, turns into a handoff between LeBron and AD. Multiple threatening actions in a short period of time with two great players involved. Whew.

A little bit of personal news: I got married this past weekend. And while it is the middle of the season, some things take precedence over basketball. So I’m going to take some time away from writing.

“I don’t have the 5 positions anymore. It may be as simple as 3 positions now…you’re either a ball-handler, a wing or a big.” - Brad Stevens

Chauncey Billups (@1MrBigShot) was really good as an analyst on LAL-CLE last night, weaving in lots of Xs and Os discussion. Touched on late switching, stunting, downing, 2.9-ing… I’d love it if more analysts followed that model. Don’t dumb it down for fans - teach them up!

The reporting of Philly’s celebration of the Super Bowl last night is a great example of the distorting effect media has on our perception of reality.

I don’t know what this says about me, but I would watch a highlight mix that was just Marc Gasol sniffing out Hammer action.
