Books completed in 2022: #1 - @barneyfarmer - PARK BY THE RIVER. Excellent, wise novel, of history, memory & anecdote rather than story. Though the narrative of these times vis-a-vis Covid is a crucial background. The prefatory line 'From fear to equanimity' is key.

Why is the British parliament involved in an attempt to sanction regime change in Iran?

Yes, during her reign there were only major riots in several cities for four months of 1981, again in 1985, then only a handful of minor riots until 1990 and the gigantic riot which arguably triggered her downfall.
If only Lady Thatcher was in power. These liberal thugs wouldn’t be rampaging around.

Locks should be abolished to save time, according to a report by the Institute of Burglars.
The NHS should be abolished to save lives, according to a report by the Institute of Economic Affairs. It’s calling for the health service to be replaced with a system of social insurance like the Netherlands. Should we scrap the NHS to save lives?

Britain couldn’t cope with a proper winter like the winters we used to have when I was a kid. Like when the Irish Sea froze over in 1981 and me and our kid skated from Blackpool to Dublin. Or 1978 when the walruses attacked Hull. Proper winters. With proper binmen.
A wintry spell lands in the UK this week with snow and ice already affecting parts of the country. But will there be more? @liamdutton explains.

I well recall my jaw-dropping over and over upon reading the chapter of Brothers Karamazov in which Ivan spends six months trying to close a Scottish Power account after he moved house and changed suppliers.
