OK, so Tiger Woods had a subtalar fusion to his right foot today, to alleviate the pain from the arthritis that developed after his car crash in January 2021. What exactly is that, why did he have it done, and what can be expected from it? 1/n

So here are the ?s and some answers about Tiger and his injuries. First of all, Tiger and his handlers are notoriously secretive so we will likely not get full information. That is always a patient’s prerogative, and with HIPAA, treating MDs cannot reveal details. 1/n

Baby crying at Roland Garros. Famous story about Arnold Palmer. Baby crying while he was trying to play at a tournament. The mother put her hand over his mouth. Palmer walked over and said, "Maam, this isn't that important. Let him breathe. I can play." That was Arnold Palmer.

Yeah, Magic, I was on my yacht cheering for him, too. Oh wait, I forgot. I don't have a yacht.

If you can, everyone should go to an Olympics. You meet people from all nations, everyone is smiling, everyone gets along, and you realize we're all a lot more alike than we are different. I feel sorry for people who have never experienced that.

A bit more on Tiger Woods’ injuries. Tiger’s people put out a release and said he had “follow-up procedures on his injuries this morning.” What would that have been and what does that mean? 1/n

The best thing Tiger has going for him is his physical condition (which has always been superb) and his youth. He is old for a pro golfer, but orthopaedically still relatively young. 20/end for now

I knew Arnie and I know Peg. Arnie was universally beloved by his fellow PGA Tour pros. With Peg, the apple did not fall far from the tree. If Peg said this, you can vouch for it being true.

Assuming he competes in Tokyo, Joe Klecker and his mom, Janice Klecker, 1992 Olympian, will be the 9th mother/son combination all-time on @TeamUSA, but only the second in track & field.

Can he play golf well again? Depends on your definition of well. He’ll never be the Tiger of 2000 or even 2015. The fact that this is his right foot/ankle is the saving grace, as you need motion in your left foot/ankle as you roll over it near impact. 15/end
