In February, a teenager went into a Toronto massage parlour and allegedly killed Ashley Arzaga. He's been charged with incel-related terrorist activity, the first such charge in Canada, or anywhere.- I've been thinking/reading a lot about Greta Thunberg and whiteness. I find her very moving, I believe she is genuine and I hope she can resist becoming a symbol for corporate greenwashing. Here is a thread of other young people to listen to as well.
- Never forget that 2020 was the year that Black, Indigenous and otherwise racialized journalists in Canada stopped whispering and said it all out loud. In the order that I remember:
- A mob of 200 white ppl threaten Mi'kmaq lobster fishers: RCMP does nothing. A handful of Haudenosaunee defend their land: OPP arrests dozens. Meanwhile, what is never enforced is Canada's own legislation, the treaties Canadian leaders have knowingly signed. Links below:

- Teens talking climate emergency on CBC are bringing it. White girl says it's a chance to end white supremacy, brown girl says it's a chance to protect Indigenous land. I wish them so much luck kicking all our asses.
- I just got off the TTC bc a man who clearly fell through whatever "safety net" we have left in this city/province/country decided to whip it out. I was with my kid. On the first, very crowded streetcar in 20 minutes. I do not want this person arrested. I want a better city.
- If I were a Canadian columnist (which I am not🎉), I might write about disappearing COVID data - SK maybe reporting only monthly, BC no longer reporting daily deaths, QC not reporting wastewater - as a chance to clue the public into just how data-poor and secretive Canada is.
