I’ve always been in love with Afghanistan. So as someone who spent nearly two weeks there visiting family, I made sure make full use of my experience there. Here are my thoughts 🧵

It is so exhausting to see Muslims criticised for everything in the UK. This advert literally encourages people to donate to charity. Muslim donors give more on average than other religious groups in the UK, both domestically and abroad. How is that a bad thing in any way?

Okay hear me out guys. This, but for adults. For non practicing Muslims who need a reminder, for reverts, for disabled Muslims. This would truly make prayer more accessible to everyone.

No one: Afghans: I’m so sorry I didn’t have a chance to make any food. This is all so rushed and last minute.

Just returning home from Dubai visiting my family. No income tax Bins emptied every other day Road sweepers everyday Hardly any self service checkouts People really friendly & service excellent It’s a shame that our own governments don’t care about the UK & it’s own citizens

I remember how much fuss and anger there was over Qatar banning alcohol during the World Cup. The Paris Olympics will now also impose a ban on alcoholic drinks across all venues and competitions. It just seems like the criticism is much more subdued this time round.

This is unbelievable. You accidentally MURDERED innocent fathers and sons and brothers, people that won’t be able to go back home tonight. Women losing the love of their lives, their children. Families that will be crippled with poverty by losing their sole provider.

Kids in Afghanistan are so much more mature than anywhere else. Many are forced out of school at a young age, to provide for their families and to grow up way too quickly. On some faces, the sign of trauma is clear.

It will take a lot of time to fix the country, to make progress and rebuild all the that has been lost. But we can only hope. Afghanistan has so much potential and few things in the world are as powerful as optimism.

Killing journalists is a war crime. At least 39 journalists have been killed in just over one month of Israel’s war on Gaza. It's been described as “the deadliest month for journalists”. These are their names:

I fell in love with Kabul all over again. But I can't help but see Afghanistan as it truly is, the land of broken dreams and shattered hearts. Girls sit at home, with no plans and men look for ways to leave the country and rebuild a life elsewhere.

Security is so much better, no more military presence in the streets, or tanks or weapons. I felt completely safe, even with Taliban presence everywhere.
