Deepa Bhasthi is not only the first Indian translator to win the prize, she's also the one who actually put the book together from a wide range of Banu Mushtaq's stories. 'Heart Lamp': written by a woman, translated by a woman, edited by a woman.
Yessssss! Deepa Bhasthi and Banu Mushtaq win the 2025 International Booker Prize 2022 as translator and writer, respectively, of 'Heart Lamp', a collection of stories originally written in Kannada. @TheBookerPrizes @kan_writersside @andothertweets @PenguinIndia

Nerd alert: the decade ends in 2020, not in 2019. It began in 2011, not 2010. The 21st century began in 2001, not 2000. Because we count from 1 to 10, not from 0 to 9.

Vaccination. Omicron. Poverty. Inequality. Price rise. Unemployment. Economy. Climate crisis. Pollution. China. Caste violence. Gender violence. Which of these problems will be solved though religion vs religion vs religion?

Yessss! Translator Daisy Rockwell and author Geetanjali Shree win the International Booker for 'Tomb of Sand' ('Ret Samadhi' in the original). A first win for a Hindi novel, an Indian novel, a south Asian novel. Congratulations! @TheBookerPrizes

Vaccination can’t end with two shots. We’ll probably need vaccination for everyone every year for some time to come. The planning has to take this into account. Vaccination has to be normalised, not treated as a one-off emergency.

For every bigot trying to curtail the flow of aid to Kerala using religion as a tool, there are a hundred citizens who are sending money, food, medicine, clothes and more. You won’t win, bigots.

Now that the government has effectively put the vaccine in the open market, can our Forbes billionaires spare some of their personal wealth, which ballooned during the pandemic, to finance state governments to buy the vaccine directly from manufacturers?

The outcome of politics without education is visible all around us.
IMHO, educational institutions and campuses should be free of all politics. Education & politics together only breed criminals and hokey politicians in India. #CABPolitics

So, the government says all those who voted it into power may not be citizens. (Since a voter ID is not proof of citizenship.) In which case the government may not have been elected constitutionally. In which case it may not even be the government. 😂
