Happy to announce my latest work: a chapter in the Palgrave Handbook of Contemporary Geopolitics titled, "Geopolitics and Far-Right Ideology." Deepest thanks to our indefatigable editor Zak Cope and the good people at Springer. link.springer.com/referenceworke…

National Geographic videographer, Trip Jennings, was shot in the face by an impact munition in Portland. The round went through the eye of his gas mask, causing eye lacerations, and he was pepper sprayed so bad that the doctor had to wear a respirator. His account posted on FB:

There’s a line of women linking arms and protecting the protestors outside the Justice Center. Chants of, “Feds stay clear, moms are here!” and “Moms not Feds,” to resounding applause.

I was put on an Atomwaffen kill list of journalists taken straight from an article published at Quillette where he's an editor. Last year, I was punched in the face by a Proud Boy on film while reporting, but Andy was too busy playing victim to mind. His "work" supports violence.

Now that Andy Ngo has admitted—in court—that he targets left-wing activists for abuse (in the same way he perceives himself targeted), I think it's important to note that many mainstream platforms have given him time to do what is explicitly intensification of political conflict.

Last night the Proud Boys descended on Downtown Portland with the intention of terrorizing a vigil for a black man killed by police. And then physically assaulted people who showed up to defend the community. Calling these outrages a "both sides" thing is simplistic and wrong.

I keep wanting to say this and it keeps getting stuck in my throat, but here it goes. The GOP has effectively built a combat party. It's not a political party that you see in a system in which communicating ideas matters. It's a mass party with a paramilitary function.

I suggest reading this tweet to yourself at least three times to try to let it sink in. We're not in 2011 anymore. These are armed, far-right militias trying to force everybody into the teeth of a pandemic.

Quick thread highlighting several reports from yesterday about violent, armed vigilantes roaming around or taking to rooftops... stuff from Philly, Portland, Chicago, Fargo, Boisie, Lubbock, Bentonville, and Upland, California ... x.com/jpegjoshua/sta…

Nobody called Black Lives Matter protestors "antifa" in 2014, because nobody even knew that it was a thing. Now that ppl know it's a thing, they're using it to describe all big civil unrest, because that's easier than understanding complex social movements.

Here's an interactive webmap I made of vigilantism incidents I've been tracking over the last several days. They range from smallish to 100+ participants, and from staging to harassment, chucking objects, and shootings... will continue to update. web.pdx.edu/~aross/inciden…

I've known @TripJennings pretty much as long as I've been in Portland... probably around 8 years or so. He's a solid guy and I'm incredibly sad not just for him but for our city. He's the fifth person, and second friend, that I know of who's been shot in the face by the feds.

I saw this earlier this week while monitoring fascist websites. Cruz got it from Seleh, who appears to have gotten it from a Dutch far right, pro-Assad account. The day before they posted, I saw it on Telegram from this channel that shares NazBol stuff. Weird pipeline.
