- It really disturbs me professionally as a researcher of colonialism that I so fell for the idea that the worst of genocidal colonialisms is well behind us that my analytical imagination was and still is is unable to encompass the perpetration and legitimisation of so much evil.
- Replying to @anthroprofhagecommittee told my nominators that they can’t decide on whether I should get the prize/money or not… like that. Don’t want to name names, more out of respect for my nominators than for any other reason. But I want to share the fact that this thing that has happened to a number of
- I’d like to announce today, on my 67th birthday, that I have just finished meeting my German lawyer and we’ve decided that we will be fighting Max Planck’s decision in court. Even if we lose it is not a decision I want to accept without a fight as this is about a lot more than me

- Me to conference organisers: I am not interested in debating a zionist. organisers: Is this BDS? Me: no. this is refusing to have a civilised debate with someone who supports genocide and the invasion of my own country as they are both unfolding. how can you even suggest this?!
- My friend, the great Lebanese writer and intellectual Elias Khoury has left us. When I was a PhD student, meeting him for the first time in 1984, almost exactly fourty years ago, truly resuscitated my sense of belonging to Lebanon. He was the editor of the cultural section of
- The first court meeting with Max Planck’s lawyers has happened and as expected, as I am not interested in a financial settlement, and they are not interested in apologizing to me, there was no reconciliation. so now Max Planck’s lawyers have to present us with what they think is
